Green Takeover

WHAT IS GREEN TAKEOVER?

Green Takeover invites community members to volunteer to help with sustainability efforts at the Belvedere Tiburon Library. Participants can participate in one or both of the following projects:

Green Our Library of Things!

Help us expand our Library of Things collection to include items that support sustainability and climate resilience. (Think portable induction burners, small tools, crafting and maker kits, outdoor gear, and more. We want your ideas!) Volunteers will assess local needs, discuss and select 20 items to acquire, source them, and decide how to market the items. Plus, you’ll champion our green Library of Things in the community.

Co-Design a Green Library Event!

Become a co-creator of a sustainability-focused Library program or event for the public. Volunteers, together with staff, will determine what activity to host, how to engage the community, select the necessary resources, address marketing and outreach, and run the event with support from Library staff. The activity will happen in May or June 2025.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

Community members interested in sustainability can volunteer to help co-design a sustainability-focused Library activity and/or expand our Library of Things offerings. Help make a positive impact on our environment.

Volunteers must commit to the timeline (See “What’s the Time Commitment?” below). Volunteers who participate in planning the sustainability activity must be available to help run the event in May or June 2025.

WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO REACH?

Through strategic planning in 2023, the community identified the Library as a key partner in driving climate resiliency and sustainability efforts locally. Green Takeover aims to give community members a voice in shaping sustainability services that affect them. We also hope you’ll help us reach and connect with community members who don’t currently use the Library.

WHAT KIND OF EVENT OR PROGRAM CAN WE PLAN?

That’s up to you! Your event must be free and open to the public and be centered around sustainability. We’re looking for ideas that promote community awareness about resilience, climate change, and a sustainable future. We’ve recently hosted a Green book club, e-waste recycling and paper shredding, and a disaster preparedness workshop – there are a lot of opportunities!

Don’t worry if you don’t have event planning experience or knowledge of the Library of Things. We’re here to help. We want to ensure the community's needs and voices are heard, and your participation in these projects will expand and enrich community members’ impact on Library programs and resources. We’re interested in your most creative ideas!

WHAT’S THE TIME COMMITMENT?

We’ll meet every other week on Tuesdays (unless otherwise noted).

  • Volunteers will decide if we meet in the morning or evening. Please share your preference on the intake form.
  • Each meeting will last 90 minutes at the Belvedere Tiburon Library. If necessary, we’ll host hybrid meetings for participants to join virtually.
