What is it like to be an actor in a play by Shakespeare or to dedicate one's life to the study of the renown poet-playwright? Attend John Boe's discussion to learn more about the Shakespearean life.

Living the Shakespearean Life: True Stories, edited by John Boe, is a collection of oral histories from eminent Shakespeare scholars, directors, and actors in England and America talking about their Shakespearean lives, including how they first became interested in Shakespeare, what they have learned from Shakespeare, what the Shakespearean is, what Shakespeare might have been like.

John Boe is a PhD in English who taught courses at U.C. Davis for many years, including summer sessions on Shakespeare held in London. At U.C. Davis he was a Founding Editor of the journal Writing on the Edge, and he co-edited the compilation Teachers on the Edge: The WOE Interviews, 1989–2017. He is also the author of Life Itself: Messiness is Next to Goddessness and Other Essays and Your Joke is in the E-mail: Cyberlaffs from Mousepotatoes (with Alice Kahn). Of the author, folklorist and storyteller Ruth Stotter, says, "John Boe taught Shakespeare, poetry, children’s literature at UC Davis for 30 years.  He has won prizes for his writing and teaching, is a professional storyteller, and author...Best of all, he is a thoroughly entertaining speaker!...Reading his book I was left with a new perspective on how and why Shakespeare continues to be popular.  John is humorous, enthusiastic and a scholar."
