New Afterschool Programs for Grades 3-5!
In our effort to create more regular activities for students in Grades 3-5, the Children’s Department is pleased to announce new programs beginning this fall semester! Every Wednesday afternoon during the school year, we’ll have something for older kids to do.
NEW: Picture This! Book Club for Grades 4 and 5
Starts September 16.
From graphic novels, to novels with illustrations, to trendy new hybrid novels, stories and pictures can interact in fascinating ways! Students in Grades 4 and 5 can read the books they love to read – and learn something, too. Book club members will enjoy a snack while learning how to evaluate these books with a critical yet appreciative eye, and even designing stories of their own. Students will receive their own copies of the each month's novel to take home.
Every third Wednesday of the month during the school year. Students in 4th or 5th Grade only, please! Limit to 12 students.
NEW: Threads Club (Grades 3 - 5)
Starting August 26.
Knitting, cross stitch, sewing: if you are age 8 to 12 and you love working with a needle and thread, this is your afterschool social club. Club members are encouraged to bring their own projects from home, but small and simple projects can be provided if necessary.
Every second and fourth Wednesday during the school year, starting August 26.
Read to a Dog
Every first Wednesday of the month, all year long.
This beloved program encourages children to increase their reading skills and self-confidence by reading aloud to certified therapy dogs. Our volunteer dog and their person have received training from the Marin Humane Society. No registration required; sign in at the Children's Desk when you arrive.
We look forward to seeing you at the library this coming school year!
