Blackout Poetry Workshop for Teens
Celebrate National Poetry Month
Discover your inner poet! If you are a creative teen (age 13-18), you are invited to a fun workshop to reveal poems hidden in old text with the blackout method, a great way to recycle old books!
Blackout Poetry, also called Found-Word Poems, is a method of blacking out lines of text in old books, newspapers, or magazines to reveal poems hidden inside and is perfect for students who don't think they can write poetry or want to explore exciting new styles combining writing and art.
Blackout Poetry is a type of Altered Book Art, in which used or damaged books are upcycled and given a new creative life, so it is also a way to keep stuff out of the landfill and practice sustainability.
This workshop is for teens 13 -18 only. Students are encouraged to bring their own old books, magazines, or other printed materials if they want to, but all materials will be provided.
